Cosmetic Procedures for the Eyes

The eyes are often called the “windows to the soul,” but they are also the windows to a person’s age. Wrinkles around the eyes are often the first fine lines to appear on the face, despite preventative measures. Drooping eyelids and eyebrows, bags under the eyes, and crows’ feet will betray a person’s age faster than any other sign of aging. Luckily, there are a number of plastic surgery procedures that enable a patient to eliminate or reduce the appearance of all of these problems, creating a more youthful look.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Drooping upper eyelids age the face. Wrinkled, saggy eyelids are a dead giveaway of aging skin, and standard anti-aging techniques, such as the use of ointments or creams are often ineffective of loose skin. However, upper eyelid surgery can get rid of the extra, sagging skin, returning the eyelids to their former smooth and youthful appearance.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Like the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid can also become creased and droopy, allowing the entire area to look old and wrinkled. The lower eyelids are prone to wrinkles and folds, and do not respond as well to non-surgical treatments. A plastic surgeon can, however, lift and tighten this skin, giving it a smoother look.

Brow Lift

As the skin of the face ages, it begins to lose its elasticity and collagen deposits. These two components keep skin tight, firm, and in the proper place. As they deplete however, skin begins to sag and fold. Eyebrows, because they are so prominent, often sag below their original placement, making the entire face look droopy and aged.

A simple brow lift procedure can return brows to their proper place, and also remove any of the expression lines that commonly form on the forehead and brow area. By also smoothing out these areas, a brow lift can allow the entire face to look more youthful.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is often a catch-all for repairing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as it paralyzes the muscles under the skin. These muscles are responsible for many of the wrinkles of the face because the repeated muscle contractions fold and wrinkle the skin. BOTOX® Cosmetic can relax these areas, allowing the skin to return to its former smoothness.

BOTOX® Cosmetic can be used to soften crows’ feet at the outer corners of the eyes, the expression lines in the brow area, and those more prominent wrinkles that often occur on the temples.

Dermal Fillers for Under-Eye Circles

Permanent under-eye circles can appear as early as age 20 and may be absolutely impossible to get rid of without dermal filler injections. As the elastin and collagen fades away from this area, the skin is left hollow, giving the eyes a sunken appearance. Dermal fillers restore these areas to their former fullness.
